About this title
Synopsis
Grace Mullen has substituted for six years. The work ends at three, it asks nothing of her, and that is the whole reason she does it. She is very clear with herself about this. In January she takes two weeks of seventh-grade English at DuBois Middle. The class has had six teachers since September. Nobody tells her that. She works it out on the second day, from how politely they ignore her. Twenty-eight of them. They are not hostile. They are finished. The posting ends on a Friday, and the district has already sent her the address of the next school.
Who this is about
Grace Mullen substitutes because it ends at three and asks nothing of her, which is the arrangement she made with herself after the last school she cared about.
What goes wrong
She takes a two-week posting in seventh-grade English at DuBois Middle and finds a class that has run through six teachers since September and has learned exactly what that means.
What's at stake
If she stays she becomes the seventh person these kids will watch leave, unless she does not leave, and staying means giving up the arrangement that keeps her working at all.
Why it keeps going
Every week the building gives her a reason to go, and every week one of twenty-eight kids gives her a smaller, worse reason to stay.
Takeaway
Children stop testing the adults who leave and start testing the ones who might not.

Where your money goes
Your money goes straight to the creator to turn this pitch into a trailer. A pitch today is a poster and a logline. What the money buys is the first piece of film anyone will see.
Nothing is collected until two things are true
This campaign has to raise $300, which is 60% of its ask, and reach 50 backers. Whichever of the two happens later is the one that counts. Money without backers is one person, and backers without money is a crowd that cannot fund the thing, so a Pitch campaign needs both.
