Two years. Marguerite Adeyemi can tell you the make of every lock on Seventh Street, the rota of the night staff, and the exact number of seconds between the alarm and the first car. The drill takes nine minutes. The response is six. She has taken that problem apart every way it comes apart and it does not come apart. In February Teodor tells her he has fixed it. He is not lying and he will not explain, and Marguerite has begun to understand that a nine-minute job with a six-minute response was never her plan to solve.
Who it follows
Marguerite has planned the Seventh Street vault for two years and has never once solved the three-minute gap.
What goes wrong
A member of her crew solves it, and will not say how.
What is at stake
The gap only closes if somebody inside the bank is already helping, and she did not arrange that.
What keeps it running
Each episode she works out one more thing her own crew has arranged without telling her.
