It is the most profitable business in the empire, and everyone who matters profits from it. His old mentor, John Newton, once captained a slave ship. He is the man who wrote "Amazing Grace." A motion fails. A witness will not testify. A friend defects. A new tactic almost works. It will take twenty years and cost him his health, and every year the bill fails, tens of thousands more people are shipped across the Atlantic in chains.
