About this title
Synopsis
Halvard Ness reads brands for the Wyoming stock association. It is quiet work and he is good at it, and both sides of this county trust him, which in eighteen ninety-two is a rare thing. In December a private train comes up from Texas carrying fifty hired men, four wagons, and a list of seventy homesteaders the association intends to have cleared off before the grass comes back. They would like Ness to go down the list and mark the ones who are really rustling. He knows every name on it. Eleven of them are, and the other fifty-nine are not.
Who this is about
Halvard Ness inspects brands for the Wyoming stock association. He is trusted by the association because he is honest, and trusted by the homesteaders for the same reason.
What goes wrong
In December a train of hired gunmen arrives from Texas with a list of seventy names, and the association asks Ness to confirm which ones are actually rustling.
What's at stake
Seventy families, one winter, and a list that will be acted on with or without him. Confirming nothing is also an answer, and the men from Texas can read.
Why it keeps going
The gunmen work north through the county one homestead at a time, and Ness rides ahead of them, which every day means choosing a door to reach first.
Takeaway
The men who keep the records are always the ones a killing needs most, and the last ones anybody blames.

Where your money goes
Your money goes straight to the creator to turn this pitch into a trailer. A pitch today is a poster and a logline. What the money buys is the first piece of film anyone will see.
Nothing is collected until two things are true
This campaign has to raise $300, which is 60% of its ask, and reach 50 backers. Whichever of the two happens later is the one that counts. Money without backers is one person, and backers without money is a crowd that cannot fund the thing, so a Pitch campaign needs both.
