Synopsis
Fennel closed on a Tuesday in October with forty covers on the book and no way to buy the fish. Teddy Kwan turned off the pilot lights. Owen Bright locked the door. They have not spoken since. Fourteen months later a judge orders the equipment sold and the money split, and the lease has three weeks left on it. So they meet at eight in the morning in a room with no heat, with a clipboard, to price nine years. The proofing cabinet was her grandmother's. The knives are his. The stockpot they bought the first week, at a hotel auction, laughing, and neither of them has said a word about it yet.

What goes wrong
The court orders the kitchen equipment sold and the proceeds split. Neither of them can do that alone, so they have three weeks in the empty room together, taking inventory.
