About this title
Synopsis
Marisol Quade has cleaned the Aldous Hotel for eleven years, and she knows the difference between a bed that was slept in and a bed that was lived in. Room 312 has been sealed since the fire three years ago. Every morning its bed is slept in, the pillow still warm. Then a suitcase appears at the foot of it. The key log says nobody has been in. The manager says the log is wrong, and asks her to stop writing it down. The last housekeeper to push on 312 never came back after the fire. On the sixth morning Marisol finds her own name tag on the pillow.
Who this is about
Marisol Quade has been a housekeeper at the Aldous Hotel for eleven years and takes pride in noticing what guests think nobody notices.
What goes wrong
The bed in sealed room 312 is slept in every morning, the pillow still warm, and the key log shows nobody has opened the door since the fire.
What's at stake
The manager hints that her job is not safe if she keeps raising it, and the fire took the last housekeeper who did.
Why it keeps going
Each night the bed is a little more rumpled, a suitcase has appeared at the foot of it, and the housekeeping cart has started to stop outside 312 on its own.
Takeaway
The ones who see everything are the first to be asked to see nothing.
