About this title
Synopsis
Gus Pellerin drives the Tuesday route. Six stops, a bank, a grocery chain, two check cashers and the casino annex. Nineteen years, no incident, a thermos and a rule against talking about it. This Tuesday his guard is a rookie named Pike, and dispatch has added a seventh stop at the last minute. The man waiting there says Gus's daughter's name and asks how her recital went. The radio goes quiet after the fourth stop. The truck holds four hundred thousand dollars. The rookie takes the safety off his shotgun and says he can explain.
Who this is about
Gus Pellerin has driven the Tuesday armored route for nineteen years with the same two stops, the same lunch and a standing rule that nothing ever happens.
What goes wrong
This Tuesday his guard is a new hire, one stop has been added at the last minute, and the person waiting at it knows his daughter's name.
What's at stake
The truck carries four hundred thousand dollars in cash, and the man at the last stop wants all of it or wants Gus to help him lose it. Either costs Gus his pension.
Why it keeps going
Six stops, one hot afternoon, a radio that stops answering, and a rookie guard who is a better shot than he lets on and is hiding something of his own.
Takeaway
The rule that nothing ever happens is only true until the day it is tested.
