About this title
Synopsis
Two in the morning, four feet of new snow, and Auggie Renfro is on the slope above the Ophir trailhead digging a pit by headlamp because he could not sleep and does not know why. He finds it at ninety centimeters. A layer of buried surface hoar, smooth as sugar, running the width of the pit. Above it, everything that fell this week. Below it, a thousand vertical feet and forty people asleep. He cannot prove any of it. He called an evacuation two winters ago and nothing came down, and it cost him a season and most of what people used to say about him. He starts knocking on doors at three.
Who this is about
Auggie Renfro guides ski tours in the San Juans and reads snow for a living, which in practice means being right quietly and wrong in front of everybody. Two winters ago he was wrong, publicly.
What goes wrong
At two in the morning he digs a pit above the Ophir trailhead and finds a layer that should not be there under four feet of new snow, with forty people asleep below it.
What's at stake
He cannot prove it. Calling an evacuation on a hunch ends his permit and his business, and it is the second time he has called one, and the first one was wrong.
Why it keeps going
Every hour he spends convincing one more person is an hour the slope has and he does not, and the arguing is the part that takes the time.
Takeaway
Being right once too early is how a man spends the credibility he needs the second time.

Where your money goes
Your money goes straight to the creator to turn this pitch into a trailer. A pitch today is a poster and a logline. What the money buys is the first piece of film anyone will see.
Nothing is collected until two things are true
This campaign has to raise $300, which is 60% of its ask, and reach 50 backers. Whichever of the two happens later is the one that counts. Money without backers is one person, and backers without money is a crowd that cannot fund the thing, so a Pitch campaign needs both.
