Synopsis
The man died on a Tuesday in the back of the marshal's office, and what he wanted at the end was not a priest and not a doctor. He wanted somebody to say out loud that his boy would get to an aunt in Kansas. Amos Deane said it. There were two other men in the room and both of them heard him say it. The boy is eleven and does not want to go. The aunt has not answered a letter in four years. And the men who put the hole in his father would very much like to know where he is.
