About this title
Synopsis
Cole Brandt spends his weekends losing rallies by seconds. Tonight the course is closed, the snow is coming sideways and a courier is waiting in a ditch with the one thing that matters. The cooler has four hours left. The hospital is forty miles away over the same stages Cole has driven a hundred times. The men chasing him have not. He belts in, tells his co-driver to read the notes, and goes flat out.
Who this is about
Cole Brandt is thirty-one, a gravel-stage rally driver who builds his own car in a barn outside Bend and has never finished on a podium.
What goes wrong
A courier van is run off the highway during a blizzard, and a donor kidney is in the wrong hands. The only road to the hospital before the cooler warms is the closed rally course Cole knows by heart.
What's at stake
Cole's car is rated for a race, not a chase. One roll cage, one set of tires, and a clock that stops mattering the moment the organ is no longer viable.
Why it keeps going
Forty miles of closed stages, a car held together with welds, a co-driver who reads the notes and a pursuit that knows the same corners.
Takeaway
Knowing the road is worth more than horsepower, but only if you drive it like you mean it.
