Synopsis
Del Ferris has run this load north four times a month for nine years and has never stopped for anybody. It is not caution exactly. It is a rule, and the whole point of a rule is that you do not relitigate it in the rain at eleven at night. She is standing past the Vinita on-ramp with no coat. She is fourteen, maybe. He puts the flashers on before he has decided anything. Somewhere around Big Cabin he notices the same headlights four cars back that were four cars back at Vinita.

He picks up a girl outside Vinita because it is raining and she is fourteen, and two hours later there is a car behind him that has been behind him since Vinita.

Putting her out at the next exit is safe, and he knows exactly what it would make him.

Each episode is one more exit he does not take, and one more thing he learns about who is following.
