About this title
Synopsis
The board voted on a Friday. It was not close and it was not unreasonable: four years, a great deal of money, and an aircraft that has flown twice, both times for under a minute. What the board did not do is move the demonstration. The date was set with the ministry a year ago and the ministry does not move dates. So there are nine days, one airframe made largely of wood, and a site where nobody is being paid to be. On Monday morning two of them come back anyway.
Who this is about
Nell Ravenscroft has spent four years and a great deal of other people's money on an aircraft the board has already written off.
What goes wrong
The funding stops on a Friday. The demonstration date does not move.
What's at stake
Nine days, one airframe, and nobody left on the site who is being paid to help her.
Why it keeps going
Each episode one more person who walked out comes back for one afternoon, and never says why.
Takeaway
Every impossible thing was finished by people who had stopped being paid.
