About this title
Synopsis
They hanged Cal Vane in Ardsley on a Thursday in the spring of eighty-one, for a killing another man did, in front of most of the town, and the town went back to work. His brother Ellis breaks horses. It is patient work and he has been patient for nine years, and in that time Ardsley has done well: the coroner is mayor now, the jury foreman owns the bank. He rides in with a string of eleven head to sell. The man who actually did the killing died last winter, in bed, of nothing in particular, and Ellis has been told so twice already.
Who this is about
Ellis Vane breaks horses for a living, which is patient work, and he has been patient for nine years about the town of Ardsley and what it did to his brother.
What goes wrong
He comes back with horses to sell and finds the coroner is mayor, the jury foreman owns the bank, and the man who did the killing died last winter in bed.
What's at stake
There is nobody left to kill who deserves it and nobody left to punish who would feel it. What he does next is only ever going to be about him.
Why it keeps going
Ardsley needs horses, so he stays, and every week he sells one to a man who helped build the scaffold and remembers it a good deal more kindly than it happened.
Takeaway
A town does not forget what it did. It only agrees on a version it can live beside.

Where your money goes
Your money goes straight to the creator to turn this pitch into a trailer. A pitch today is a poster and a logline. What the money buys is the first piece of film anyone will see.
Nothing is collected until two things are true
This campaign has to raise $300, which is 60% of its ask, and reach 50 backers. Whichever of the two happens later is the one that counts. Money without backers is one person, and backers without money is a crowd that cannot fund the thing, so a Pitch campaign needs both.
